Good laughs, food with good people

On occasion — usually once a week — my co-workers form a group dinner.

We may take awhile to round up because of our different workloads, and it may take awhile to decide on where to eat. But it’s usually unanimous.

I get a dose of self-inflicted guilt when we go because of the dinner I packed, or the money I could save by not going. When I rationalize it some more, I come to realize stepping away from my computer for a great conversation is healthy as well, sometimes necessary for sanity’s sake.

Since I’ve worked here I tried a few restaurants and tried my best to eat cheap.

At “B Dubs,” nationally known as Buffalo Wild Wings, I take advantage of their specials on Wednesdays and Thursdays. After a few tries of the sauces, I would have to say the mild is my choice from now on. I do plan to try the Parmesan garlic next time.

One night I ate at B Dubs for less than $5 — including the tip. I have a small appetite because I try to eat five small meals most days, so eating cheap is fairly easy.

At some new places I throw away my frugality and tune into my taste buds’ wants and needs. For example, Giorgio’s Pizzeria and More has cheesecake and cannolis. Last week I ordered Key Lime Pie and a slice of a pre-made pizza. Yay! And Tina was so nice. She shared a bite of her Spumoni cheesecake with me. Double yay! Next time we go, I plan to order the chocolate cannoli. It may be Heaven’s delight.

This week at Giorgio’s I ordered a gyro, pronounced Yee-Ro, not Ji-Ro or Gi-Ro, however everyone may know what you mean. In mixed company, I may pronounce it with the “J” sound. Giorgio’s gyro wasn’t the same as my favored Hammy Horton’s gyro, but man it hit the spot.

Aside from food, conversation with co-workers is just plain therapeutic. We vent, we joke, we get serious and I think we even wish we could eat out every day for our dinner break.
