Reasons why I dislike McAlester

It’s not that I really, really dislike McAlester. It’s that when I compare McAlester to Midwest City, Shawnee, etc. I dislike it. Here are the reasons: Please, take this as humor.

No. 1 – McAlester is not near any town where my family lives.

No. 2 – My longtime friends do not live here or anywhere near here

No. 3 – There is not a Thai food restaurant here

No. 4 – There is not a mall here or anywhere close to here

No. 5 – I’m limited when it comes to career options for my degree

No. 6 – The people here typically don’t like McAlester, their own city!

No. 7 – The Italian food here isn’t as good as everyone says it is

No. 8 – The street grid is crooked and I never know where North is

No. 9 – So many people here are criminals, either convicted or alleged

No. 10 – Most of what makes the city unique doesn’t exist anymore, or ceases to happen

No. 11 – Bombs go off at the ammunition plant and shakes everything

No. 12 – There’s no Starbucks, anymore

No. 13 – There’s only one Asian buffet

No. 14 – The people here are terrible drivers

No. 15 – The intersections with a major highway is ridiculous

No. 16 – The neighboring city, Krebs, has an aggressive police force

No. 17 – The real estate market here is outrageously overpriced

No. 18 – The parking spaces for churches are ridiculous

No. 19 – Most of anyone’s shopping needs are found in faraway cities or towns

No. 20 – Boutiques, department stores, etc. overprice most of their merchandise

No. 21 – The McAlester hospital is notorious for a rude staff and bizarre encounters with PAs and doctors

No. 22 – The Wellness Center has a random-size swimming pool, when asked if it was a meter or yard pool I received “What? … I don’t know” A sign says a mile is 119 laps

No. 23 – Drivers are quick to give the middle finger

No. 24 – General encounters with cashiers and clerks are awkward or unfriendly

No. 25 – The well-known coffee shop opens roughly around 7 a.m. and closes right before 2 p.m., really?

No. 26 – No one likes the newspaper, and I work at the newspaper

No. 27 – The new Greek restaurant isn’t good and the service was bad

No. 28 – The construction towards Savanna is overdue to be complete, and is a huge hassle
